RECYCLING WORKER Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia’s wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.’s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties. The Recycling Worker will perform an exceptional level of recycling service in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper recycling techniques. Employee will maintain good working relationships with customers, staff, students and supervisors. Employee will have special project work as assigned. Employee will gain increasing efficiency with recycling techniques, supplies and equipment while moving through the Career Path Stages. The Recycling Worker is eligible to participate in the Facilities Management career path that allows for educational growth and development through four stages. All employees hired into the Career Path Recycling Worker position will begin in Stage 1 and progress through the Career Path to Stage 4. As a recycling worker, you are exposed to various temperatures and chemical hazards from diesel fuel, hydraulic fluid leakage, paints and batteries which are processed through recycling. You will be required to work around machinery and stand on different surfaces such as gravel, black top, and concrete. You must also be able to kneel, squat, walk and lift various weights while collecting, sifting, and sorting recyclable items. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while processing recyclable items.
